CRAFTSMEN AND HISTORY
A long tradition of handicraft is deeply rooted among the people
of Liguria, and their attachment to their region and to their culture
can be seen in the hand-made objects they produce.
The famous pottery
of Albisola are the work of Master ceramists famous all over the
world and the testimony of how important ceramists are in Albisola,
can be seen in the 17th century Church of the Concordia where there
is a votive altar donated by the ceramists, a statue of S. Antonio
from Padua and a 16th century ceramic panel representing the “Adoration
of the Shepherds”.
Liguria has been invaded many times and the Roman
presence in this region is shown by the many objects on exhibition
at the Roman Naval Museum of Albenga, while at the Municipal Museum
of Finale Ligure, situated in the ancient village which every week-end
hosts an antiquarian market, we can see objects from the prehistoric
age. The pottery displayed in the Benedictine Abbey in Finalpia
recalls the period when Finale was under the del Carretto Marquisate.
Other testimonials of prehistoric and Roman Liguria can be seen in
the Museums of Bordighera and Ventimiglia.
